Our Bill Meets Aung San Suu Kyi

Volunteer Bill, co-founder of the NatureBag Khmu/Lao Poverty Reduction Project, had the great privilege of exchanging greetings with 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Winner Aung San Suu Kyi after they shared the same airliner on a flight from Yangon, Myanmar, to Bangkok Sunday night 16 September.

Ms. Suu Kyi, commonly referred to as "The Lady," was beginning her trip to the USA to meet with President Barack Obama. She was accompanied by U.S. ambassador to Myanmar, Derek Mitchell. They were in the Business Class section of the aircraft. Consistent with Nature Bag practices to minimize its carbon footprint, Bill was in Economy.

After departing the Thai Airways jet, The Lady was waiting for an electrical vehicle to transport her to the VIP Immigration area when Bill spotted her. Not wishing to intrude, but unable to restrain himself from saying hello, he bowed; graciously she extended her hand, which he respectfully accepted.
